Review of La Cage aux Folles (1978) by George G — 27 Apr 2013
I didn't know what to expect with La Cage Aux Folles, I had read about it in a best films of the 70s book and thought it sounded interesting. The opening sequence was brilliant, I loved the music. So everything started off really well.
I wasn't sure about Renato at first but as the interactions between him and Albin continued I really warmed to them both, plus they have such great style! I also LOVED the humor in this, it was sort of dry - a little zany.
Just right. It was a little surreal too, I haven't seen so many drag queens in one movie before, but I really enjoyed the nightclub. I can't tell you how excited I am to have seen this, it got to 30 minutes and it felt like it had been on a lot longer but it wasn't like I was bored or I was getting restless.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. It surprises me that it was one of few in the best films of the 70s book, not because it is bad, but because it's just so random in contrast to the normal picks for the 70s.
Anyway - I LOVED La Cage Aux Folles - I can't wait to buy it and watch it multiple times.
