Review of La Bête Humaine (1938) by Brian B — 16 Sep 2007
La Bete Humaine is a very well acted and directed film. It does certainly have it's problems however. I thought Jean Gabin and the beautiful Simone Simon did outstanding jobs in their roles, but the story just wasn't there.
It was very unimaginative, the same old story of the cheating wife wanting her lover to kill her husband just didn't capture me. If you are a lover of Jean Renoir or Gabin then it's worth seeing other than that I don't know if I'd recommend it.
Overall 2.5/4 Stars Grade = C.
