Review of La Bamba (1987) by Eriqua P — 29 Oct 2007
In the 80s in South Central Pennsylvania (Mechanicsburg) my family didn't have a lot of Latin connections. It was my mother's pride to take us to the mall to see a move in the big screen that was about a Latino family.
We were proud to see ourselves (sort of) on screen.
From the curandero to him needing to change his name ot be acceptable to the American audience to the family scenes to the discomfort of Ritchie being rejected by Donna's family, there were emotional lines that were right on in addition to the rock and roll history portrayed.
The final scene pulls me in emotionally every time as his mother wails at the loss of her Ritchie.
