Review of La Bamba (1987) by Ty Q — 20 Jul 2012
It was supposed to be a very serious movie, but with some of the performances, I found myself at a struggle deciding whether or not to laugh or take it seriously. That scene in Mexico with Bob, Ritchie, and the guy who lived in the shack was supposed to be deep and serious, but I couldn't do it.
Some of the performances were just too cheesy. Also, why is Ritchie the only Mexican character who doesn't sound like he's Mexican? Everyone else spoke with an accent except for Ritchie. With all those criticisms, the story still flowed pretty smoothly and was told well.
I liked the performance from Rosana De Soto as Ritchie's very supportive, loving mother. The movie wasn't bad. I've seen better bio-pics, but I've also seen way worse.
