Review of Kurt Cobain: About a Son (2007) by Kevin M — 22 Jun 2008
At first, I didn't think I was going to enjoy this. There is no footage of the late, great Kurt Cobain. Also, there is no music written or performed by Kurt. All there is is a conversation with a reporter who sounds like he was closer to Kurt than any other reporter before this interview.
There are also some phone discussions. Visually, there is some artwork, animation and some footage of the people and places around Washington state. Some of this footage is better than others. All in all I have to admit that I enjoyed what Kurt said.
The discussions were about everything from Kurt's youth, his feelings about being famous, his wife, his band, his baby and his drug use. Also, his views about his fans was pretty interesting. You must remember that Kurt Cobain's wife, Courtney Love, most likely, knew about this film's production and denied any use of Kurt's image and music to which she owns since his death by suicide.
A different type of documentary but a very enlightening talk about a special musician and man.
