Review of Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (2002) by Joe Patrick R — 17 Mar 2014
I won't deny this movie was hilarious. And anybody who says otherwise is just somebody who takes movies way too seriously. I know that what critics really look for is something that will survive the passage of time.
But what the critics don't realize is that Steve Oedekerk didn't write this movie to survive the passage of time. At least that's not what I saw. What I saw in this movie is something that I just realized after watching it for the third time.
It was during the scene when he was training hard and doing all the ridiculous stunts and I remember thinking to myself "this is ridiculous". And then I thought "this is what I imagined I was going to be able to do when I started taking karate.
" This movie takes a look at what every preteen boy dreams of: to have been a chosen one since the day he was born and to have been a kung-fu badass every single day of his life and having the hottest chicks loving him.
And I think that Steve Oedekerk just took that idea and decided to make a movie about it and make fun of that idea and to tell you the truth it works and it's hilarious.
