Review of Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016) by Freddie K — 07 Aug 2016
"There's so much wisdom in here, I can't find anything!".
More like predictable panda 3.
Ok look, I can appreciate this movie for what it is. A kids animated movie, it is beautifully animated, well voiced, edited, sound mixed and is a solid piece of childish entertainment which I did at the least chuckle at. But how many times can the dragon warrior become great?
It's getting a little old now guys. It's time for a fresher take to the series universe, this instalment is overstuffed with too many arcs and morals which albeit did conclude into an everything sort of moral, this just feels like a downgrade of the impact the last two movies had villain and danger wise. It almost feels like it should be a made for TV special on the series. I particularily disliked the father figure with a rushed introduction and tragic backstory and the main villain Kai, despite having a wonderful oriental rendition of 'I'm so sorry' by the imagine dragons as his theme, was weak and pretty cookie cutter.
Overall, it's not harmful or eye-rolling or cringey at all. Kung fu panda was never about that, you will find entertainment in this for certain. However it's just not particularily memorable or intriguing to say the least.
C+.
58/100.
