Review of Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016) by Jodi K — 21 Feb 2016
This movie is absolutely what you would expect from the third in a series of animated animal Kung-Fu comedies. It's the type of movie that you know will end well, but it still surprises you along the way. It's family friendly, but not in a way that excludes older audiences, making it even more enjoyable. It mixes comedy, drama, and action in a way that leaves you on the edge of your seat (or as close to the edge as you can be whilst still being comfortable), waiting to see if the next scene will elicit laughter, tears, or excitement.
Po's meeting with his birth father and his journey to the Panda village teach him, and us, that individuality is the only path to becoming your best self. Although the development of Po's father and the Pandas is slightly rushed, the animation is superb, and the voice acting impressive, as always. This movie communicates well the ideals of family, friendship, and teamwork. Po's strength and affability tunes us in to his transformation throughout this journey that will leave you smiling for the rest of the evening,.
