Review of Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016) by Ds U — 24 Sep 2016
I'll keep this simple and sweet: I actually thought this was the best of the films to date, deftly combining elements of the first two while managing to be the funniest of the series (one of the best running gags involves a really clever spin on the intended inspirational quality of training montages) .
The story - which I didn't find threadbare or lacking in any regard, despite some of the critcal comments I read prior to seeing the film- allows Po's journey to take a major narrative leap forward.
I admire the loving attention to continutity in these movies- they're not one shots, but part of a larger, ongoing saga , acknowledging events from the previous chapters and even growing out of them.
Add to that the best animation I think I've ever seen (No kidding, this movie is an absolute wonder to behold) and what we have is my movie to beat for the title of my favorite film of 2016. It's going to be hard for anything to top this.
I absolutely and unreservedly give this my highest recommendation.
