Review of Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016) by Haneef A — 23 Mar 2017
Watched Kungfu Panda 3 with Fatimah Zahra Azme..directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Alessandro Carloni; starring Jack Black. A must-see for Kungfu Panda franchise fans, it continues the saga of Po the (bumbling but good-hearted?) Panda Kungfu Master.
The main theme of searching and cherishing one's strengths continues in this 3rd chapter, added with the themes of fatherhood and family. Jack Black is hilarious as usual, with strong perfomances by Bryan Cranston's Li Shan (Po's long-lost panda father), James Hong (Po's hilarious and loving adopted goose father, Ping), and J.
K. Simmons as the evil bull kungfu master, Kai. With this film, Po's story has come full circle, and very satisfying for us who has watched him since the 1st Kungfu Panda. The animation continues to be top notch; with unique, crisp animation style and bright colour palettes.
Minor nitpicks include the sometimes too fast pacing of narrative and humour, and the fight choreography is not as strong as previous entries (the jail escape of Tai Lung in 1st movie; and the unique fighting way of the peacock Lord Shen in the 2nd are better than Kai's fighting techniques).
All-around, a fun, exciting, hilarious movie. An A-.
