Review of Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016) by Christopher H — 16 Jul 2016
Though the initial premise is creative, the execution is sloppy and poor. Some recurring cliches tend to ruin some moments that were intended to be emotional and dramatic. The story line of the relationship between father and son was obvious to the point of predictable.
The action was fairly decent but was, at times, on par with the Kung Fu Panda franchise. The animation of the "spirit realm" was worthy of five stars on its own. The return of Oogway was very well done and the reinterpretation of his theme was excellent.
One of the major problems I had with the movie was the character arc of Tigress. At the start of the movie, Tigress was just as we saw her before; exciting, complex, and powerful. By the end, she was useless to the point of being an obstacle.
Tigress was, in my opinion, the best character in the franchise, outside of Oogway, Shifu, and the villains.
