Review of Kung Fu Panda (2008) by Wes M — 29 Feb 2012
"I see you like to chew. Then perhaps you should chew...on my fist!" haha it was pretty good; not amazing, but a solid 'good'. Some parts were dumb, some parts were predictable, other parts were trying a little too hard for laughs.
I've always found that to be one of the big differences between Dreamworks and Pixar: Pixar doesn't try for the jokes, they just seem to flow naturally. But don't get me wrong, this one's still funny.
The beginning had some very cool, stylish animation that reminded me of samurai jack or the Deathly Hallows animated scene, so big ups for that. Appropriate asian tunes from Hans Zimmer and John Powell (Powell has done a lot of scores, but my favorite of his is easily HTTYD).
The fight scenes were shockingly well done, and the dumpling scene is great. O, and you gotta watch one of the special features with this crazy noodle chef, he's crazy. Some decent voice acting too, including Dustin Hoffman, Seth Rogen, David Cross, and even Jackie Chan.
O, and Angelina Jolie...yes, that's not a typo. Angelina Jolie is actually in a good movie; bringing her total up to...2! But yea, think I enjoyed it more than most would cuz I'm in love with the kung fu genre.
I'll definitely check out the sequel.
