Review of Kung Fu Panda (2008) by Carol H — 26 Mar 2012
Originally, I had low expectations for this film. But after hearing a lot of critical acclaim, I decided to give it a chance. Now "Kung Fu Panda" is, without question, one of my favorite animated films in recent years.
It renewed my hope in DreamWorks Animation after such disappointments as "Shark Tale" and "Madagascar". The reason I love "Panda" so much is because it is so full of surprises.
For one thing, it's proof that DreamWorks Animation can take themselves seriously and still be entertaining. Another thing is that it has Jack Black playing against type as the humble and lovable Po.
Last but certainly not least, "Panda" is a shamelessly sincere delight. When I first watched the movie, it actually reminded me of Disney back in the glory days of the 1980s and 1990s, something I was *not* expecting at all.
I really do think that "Kung Fu Panda" is on its way to becoming an animated classic.
