Review of Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011) by Thatcooperguy — 28 Jan 2016
Funny story, my sister and a few of my cousins actually went to the movies during May of 2011, which was when Kung Fu Panda 2 was released, but instead of seeing KFP2 (like 13 year old me should of been doing) we saw the subpar sequel: Hangover Part II. And I remember when I rented Kung Fu Panda 2 on DVD several months later I thought, "Well... I'm not going the movies with my sister ever again..." Harsh, but I really didn't like Hangover Part II back then being the immature **** I was (even at 17 I still don't like it), and missing out on the sequel to Kung Fu Panda really helped cement my opinion on Hangover II.
Thought the first KFP was good? This sequel is equal to, if not, better than its predecessor. The animation is beautiful, the music is great, and the story gets improved upon. It does sadly diminish Master Shifu's role in the story, but the rest of the Furious Five much more screen time this they had in the first movie, plus we learn more about Po's backstory. It's pretty difficult as to whether or not I like this more than the first movie, I'll give it 9/10 again, but I really appreciate that this wasn't just an idiotic sequel only made to make money off the original (*cough* Hangover II *cough*), it advanced the story and was another fun animated movie like the first movie.
