The central notion of discovering one's unique personal identity ("the only thing that matters is what you choose to be now") takes us back to an earlier China and it's free of jokey references to other movies.

It's a great-looking animation and a nice entertainment, though targeted at a younger audience, without the extra level of adult sophistication. Just like the first film, the visual are amazing, if not better and the storyline is a lot more expanded and expressing the characters even more, some good moments of scenes, especially when Po keeps having weird flashbacks about his parents, lot's of great ideas, very funny but sometimes the scenes feel repetitive and can be hit and miss.

The cast of course are great but it's the new edition of Lord Shen, voiced wonderfully by Gary Oldman who almost steals the film. It is a worthy sequel and it's just better than the first film and I'd have to admit, I did enjoy this one better than the first.

The great thing is, you don't have to have seen the first film to understand what's going on and sometimes that's a good thing. Good film.
