Review of Kundun (1997) by Rusty F — 04 Aug 2007
Scorsese goes drastically from his roots with Italian cinema and gangster films to a political, religious drama centered around the Dalai Lama and Tibet's independence. The most startling feature of this film is the way that Scorsese spares so much to the cultural rituals and visuals that lace every shot.
Even with the influx of the Chinese influence, note how Kundun is drawn to the shine of their shoes.
