Review of Kundun (1997) by Steve C — 28 Dec 2007
One of Scorsese's most personal and artistic films, Kundun is a distinctive cinematic experience. The film has no real plot and is more of a character study type of story, so it's pretty slow overall.
But with enough attention span, the film will deliver in the artistry department, because it is a visionary galore. All the sets, costumes, colors, cinematography and symbolic images are presented through a nirvanic vision from master director Martin Scorsese.
If you love commercial art house films, especially one that is pretty emotionally moving as well, then Kundun is an ideal choice for viewing. It's a very, very visually stunning film. A representation of Scorsese at his most diverse and expressive.
