Review of Kundun (1997) by Cale R — 01 Jul 2010
One of Scorsese's best, and I'm not a fan of Scorsese. No recognizable actors but a great story accompanied with great cinematography and original score. The fourteenth Dalai Lama, the sacred leader of Tibet, is portrayed by Tenzin Thuthob Tsarong, a distant relative of the actual Dalai Lama.
From age 2 when he is discovered to age 24 when he's forced to flee Tibet after Mao Zedong's Communist China invades and takes over Tibet, threatening his life. Kundun and Zedong meet several times before his flee to India and, though Zedong makes a good impression on him at first, Kundun soon realizes that the Socialist leader is nothing but a greedy, anti-religion pig.
B+.
