Review of Kundun (1997) by Danny D — 01 Mar 2010
For a Director like Martin Scorsese, a man notorious for his violent gangster films, to take on a film about the 14th Dalai Lama is nothing short of gutsy. However, Scorsese proves once again that give him a script and he can make it work.
The movie itself is great, with excellent cinematography and an amazing score that really are the star of the picture. With that said though, the acting is very good and all the actors they got to play the Dalai Lama at different ages where all solid.
Also, Kundun is a movie that really makes you think about the situation in Tibet, a situation that over the years really has become the butt end of several jokes. So overall, the movie was very good, but relies a little too much on the cinematography to keep the audience entertained.
Funny side note, both this movie and the Brad Pitt film Seven Years in Tibet came out the same year. Personally, I like Kundun a little bit more.
