Partly a bizarre, fictionalized biographical drama, partly a love letter to cinema, and partly a quiet musing on depression and the dangers of unpoliced escapism, "Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter" is a stylishly shot, smartly directed, and elegantly paced film for those who love the medium with off-beat humor and a subtly stellar performance from Rinko Kikuchi.
