Review of Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter (2014) by Hugo G — 21 Jul 2015
7.8/10.
This movie was actually more dark and dramatic than I thought it would be. I was expecting it to be more of a journey movie with some melodrama, but it was much more than that. Kumiko's journey was a very interesting one that surely leaves you with mixed emotions and heartbroken. That being said Rinko Kikuchi was great as Kumiko, she used a lot of facial expressions to communicate and she really brought a very distinctive personality to her character. Also the settings and the cinematography were very beautiful and made the movie look bigger than itself. And finally, the score was very intense and really brought the mood to a next level. Overall, it wasn't they way I expected it to be, but it ended up surprising me at how serious and different it was, while also being very touching and dark.
