Review of Kumaré (2012) by Mark L — 22 Jun 2012
Truth = Illusion. Spiritual leaders are only playing roles, like everyone else, and are most often interested in keeping people dependent, hence this experiment of a fake "guru as mirror". Only one person can ever be your true spiritual leader.
Look in the mirror! There's an interesting montage of some questionable, known "leaders"at the film's beginning, including Geshe Michael Roach and Bhagavan Das, who comes off like a TOTAL A-hole.
The theme of every individual being intimately responsible for finding their own path & connecting with their higher self hit home. Where my own yoga practice is concerned, I've always said I have teachers, not gurus.
The pacing's a little slow in places & it's not as funny as something like a Sacha Cohen vehicle by a long shot, but it's well worth watching.
