Debut film by Hindi auteur Karan Johar. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is uneven at times due to Johar's inexperience and several scenes of unnecessary comic relief, but the underlying plot and the strong lead by Shah Kukh Khan shows Karan to be a director of promise who thankfully has lived up to it in the ensuing years.
