Review of Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) by Jon C — 16 Sep 2016
It's a bit on the sluggish side when it comes to pacing but it's a wonderfully-animated piece of work.
The stop-motion animation mixed with the computer animation is a wonder for the eyes.
It's also very poignant in terms of the storytelling; Kubo has always had his mother looking after him yet his family history has puzzled him.
His mother's memory isn't the best and when two spirits come after him she uses her magic to protect him the only way she knows how, from then on he is on a perilous journey to acquire mystical armor to defeat his ruthless grandfather.
A talking monkey and a beetle samurai assist him in saving his family but also helping him realize that love and family is still the strongest kind of magic.
The kids will love the unique imagery and families can learn that love doesn't make anyone weak, it makes them strong.
