Review of Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) by Jacob B — 26 Nov 2016
Kubos, uh I mean, kudos to Laika for making this fine masterpiece which has them back on track following the slightly bumpy road they hit with The Boxtrolls. Not only is the stop-motion animation so stunning that even Aardman is amazed by it but the film also boasts a story worth telling thanks to a great mixture of action, fantasy, comedy and drama as well as a talented voice cast which not only departs from the colourful and lighthearted tone that has plagued recent non-Disney animated movies but also shows that stop-motion is still a relevant type of animation today in this cinematic decade full of computer-animation ever since Hollywood learned that traditional animation was no longer profitable.
