Review of Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) by Jess_Hill — 30 Aug 2016
This is a stunning, sumptuous, sublime film that is a joy to watch. The storyline interweaves Shinto and Bhuddist ideals delicately throughout the film, with particular attention given to the philosophical underpinnings of the notions of death and perfection in an imperfect world.
The cinematography and visual design is superb, and the villains are brilliantly terrifying (the best I've seen in some time) so I'd suggest that an older audience (ten and up?) might be more appropriate.
This was a delight to watch, and a unique, exquisitely crafted film unlike any children's film in recent memory. 8.
