Review of Krepkiy Oreshek (1968) by Matt H — 19 Feb 2013
Pretty much the standard of excellence for modern action flicks. It's fast-paced, witty, ultra violent, and tastefully shot (no shaky cam or invasive editing techniques here), with some very memorable characters, including one of film's greatest villains; Hans Gruber.
Unlike many of its imitators, Die Hard is self conscious enough in its homages to the genre that it actually works to undermine them, essentially becoming a sort of deconstructionist's action film.
Watch it, and be entertained.
