Review of Krepkiy Oreshek (1968) by John K — 25 Jun 2014
Often regarded as the greatest action movie ever made, "Die Hard" truly lives up to that title and has been able to survive through the ages as an 80's and action classic because not only is Willis perfect as hardened cop John McClane, but Alan Rickman, in his film debut, portrays one of the best action movie villains of all time.
While the premise may seem basic at the time, it wasn't back in 1988 upon release: people now may view it as such because the plot has been repeated countless times, but never outdone. The film is packed with so many iconic sequences that it's hard just to pick one: from Willis throwing the corpse onto the cop car, to meeting Gruber without being sure it's him, to having Willis crawl Nakatomi with bloody feet, and perhaps the most iconic scene in action movie history, McClane jumping from the roof of the tower with only a fire hose to catch himself.
In conclusion, "Die Hard" is a non-stop action movie with incredible set pieces and great characters, and one of my favorite action films.
