Review of Krepkiy Oreshek (1968) by Tim S — 02 Jan 2016
When it comes to action films, very few manage to make a dent in the world of memorable and artfully-made films that gain a lot of respect and admiration. Die Hard manages to do that simply and subtlety.
It's no secret that it's regarded as one of the greatest action movies ever made. It made Bruce Willis a superstar, despite the fact that he already had plenty of TV recognition, and it also brought Alan Rickman to the film world in a huge way.
This movie has been endlessly imitated and ripped off since its release in 1988. The idea of a normal guy who happens to be a cop trying to save his wife from a group of terrorists and being trapped inside a building without getting any help from anyone was something new.
It's certainly not one of the deepest stories ever written, but it's definitely well-written, well-edited and well-acted. It's a classic film that kickstarted a franchise and a new approach to the genre, Die Hard remains an enduring piece of work since its original release.
