Review of Krampus (2015) by Vikas K — 10 May 2016
GREAT FUN.
Somewhere within the wrappings of this movie is an allegorical tale about how the pettiness and prejudice of a family can ruin the best of holidays, but apart from that, this really is a hundred minutes of great fun with its nineties' nostalgia. The opening sequences made me recall the chaos of a family getting together for the holidays that was so delightfully portrayed in Home Alone. It's all uphill from there with satisfying wacky mayhem and inspired creature design. The cast really gels together as a dysfunctional family and the ending is appropriately bleak even if the movie keeps hinting at Christmas redemption. I'm going to make the four year old who lives downstairs from me watch this the next time he gives me trouble. Should scare him right up!
