Review of Krampus (2015) by Robert F — 09 Dec 2015
A fun dark comedy that scares more often than you'd think it would, given it's silly premise and PG-13 rating. A spiritual sibling to 'Gremlins' that's worth seeing. Only drawbacks are it takes a little too long to explain its own premise, leaving those who aren't familiar with the Krampus mythology a little lost, and it's perhaps a little too mean spirited at times, even for a horror comedy. Still, it's surprisingly well made and includes some great performances.
SPOILERS BELOW.
The ending is indeed cryptic, and gives no definite answers. Either the entire family is okay and alive, but with Krampus watching their every move for the rest of their lives, or they're in the 'nice part' of the underworld, not damned because they learned their lesson, but definitely dead. It's really up to the viewer, but personally I find the second ending more interesting.
