Review of Krampus (2015) by Emily W — 18 Dec 2015
Are you interested in seeing a heart-warming, sentimental, comical, light-hearted, up-lifting, so-sweet-that-you-want-to-vomit, Holiday Christmas Classic? If your answer was "Yes", this is NOT the movie for you.
If you are interested in seeing all those distasteful people you come across during this time of year get their comeuppance via Demon Toys and a goat-like Christmas figure long forgotten in Christmas Past, then this is certainly the movie for you.
Krampus was certainly a Christmas Horror Film waiting to be made, and by goodness, it paid off. Sure there are a few cliche's such as jump-scares and low pay off suspense build up, but those were far and in between.
Something that was refreshing to see in a horror film with monsters was the use of physical costumes where it was needed instead of CGI humanoid creatures. Of course, there were CGI created monsters that looked didn't look convincing and were rather comical, which took away from intense scenes.
Another thing that could have been improved was that we could have seen less of the Krampus. The open and closing of the film were executed perfectly. After this film, I made sure to give my family a huge hug, told them how special they were, and promised to myself not to be a jerk around Christmas time, and never lose the hope and giving that Christmas brings.
Happy Holidays, everybody.
