Review of Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) by Ned P — 30 Aug 2008
There's not a lot wrong with this sobering divorce drama. It's beautifully understated, poignant, insightful and really makes it very tricky to produce a decent film on the same subject again. Justin Henry is passable and Dustin Hoffman is good, but the star turn comes from Meryl Streep, who is truly outstanding as the conflicted mother.
While there's nothing particularly surprising about the story, this is still an extremely worthwhile piece of work, and don't let the morose subject matter put you off.
