Review of Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) by Yizhong G — 03 Feb 2009
I never really went out of my way to see this movie, simply because it looks and sounds just like dozens already out there. The thing is, when this was released, it had never really been done before and was completely original.
And even after seeing those dozens of others, I realize they are blindly and hopelessly trying to grasp at what this movie achieves without even trying, or so it seems. Some of the best acting I've seen is on display here, and not just from the two leads (even though it's some of their finest work).
If this were to come out today, the kid would even receive a nomination for his dedicated work. This feels realistically raw every second--especially the luncheon scene where the couple meet for the first time after over a year.
This is definately one to own, and a movie I'm sure I'll enjoy and 'feel' after multiple viewings.
