Review of Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) by Ali K — 18 Jun 2010
This was a very solid drama. Things sort of progress in a fairly standard manner, but the strong performances and likeable characters and relationships make it work. The courtroom scenes elicit a suitable amount of disgust and it does a great job of capturing an extremely ugly topic.
I have a couple of nits to pick, however. The movie was pretty predictable, as previously stated. The ending was also a bit too bright and cheery. Also, this movie absolutely robbed Apocalypse Now of a Best Picture Award. Kramer Vs. Kramer was good and all, but Apocalypse Now is one of the best films ever made. But hey, that's not this movie's fault; it's still well worth watching.
