Review of Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) by Gerard M — 24 Apr 2014
Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep star in Kramer vs. Kramer which tells the story of a divorced couple fighting over custody for their son. The movie starts off showing the negative sides of being a dad and how balancing career pressures make things difficult at home.
After being left by his wife, he comes to realize the importance of how family should always come first. Just as he begins to realize this and emotionally connect with his son, his world comes tumbling down as his ex-wife files for custody and he loses his job.
The movie then has a gut wrenching scene as both parents are torn apart against each other in an attempt to win over a judge for custody. Such a scene that happens every day in America. Kramer vs. Kramer is a raw an emotionally charged film that never glamorizes for the sake of film, the issues of being single parents and the fight for control over the ones loved most.
