Kong: Skull Island wants so badly to be a great Kong movie, but it just turns out to be merely okay. There's big action set pieces, surreal CGI and some unexpected comedy. However, it doesn't live up to the Kong name in ways we have come to know.
The star-studded cast falls prey to cliches and stereotypes while the story treads along with several filler scenes. It should have been 30 minutes shorter with a more tight story. That could have done wonders.
It's still a must-see for monster movie and Kong fans alike. (3/5).
