Review of Kong: Skull Island (2017) by Kelly V — 21 Mar 2017
170320: A modern film franchise is born. The beginning of many though not the beginning of the story. On film, you'll have to go back to 1933 to see that one and it's a classic. For now, Skull Island is here, and Kong is kicking ass.
This is great entertainment, a film that put a smile on my face. Mix Vietnam era firepower, helicopters and music with testosterone, violence and some great characters and you have a winner...at least to the male crowd.
My only complaint was the design of Kong's adversaries, the Crawlers. I thought they could've been better, more realistic but oh well. Made no difference once the battle was on and guts were being ripped out and tracers flying.
A markedly fun film that I predict will lead to a bunch of slowly deteriorating sequels. Enjoy!
