Review of Kong: Skull Island (2017) by Hayden W — 31 Mar 2017

While this movie is both visually stunning and has an all-star cast, KONG: Skull Island still lacks good acting and compelling characters. When I sat down to watch this movie, I wasn't expecting it to be good at al (since Jack Blacks 2005 one was so bad). I actually was shocked to discover this movie was actually OK. I mean it's visually stunning and he CGI is done very well on Kong and the Skull Crawlers, and the other animals look very convincing. But the movie actually lacks the one thing the trailers hyped up, and that's good Samuel L. Jackson performance. Honestly this film seemed to just be as if Jackson was phoning it in. Jackson in my personal opinion didn't even seem to try in this movie. Not only him but this also goes for Tom Huddleston, and John Goodman (who recently did a terrific Patriots Day and 10 Clover-field Lane). John C. Reilly was actually the only character I cared for in this film. But all in all KONG Skull Island isn't bad, it's actually good but not great. This movie just lacks good acting from these talented actors.
