Review of Kon-Tiki (2012) by Lisa R — 27 Jun 2013
A film that wasn't only visually perfect, but mastered a spiritual and emotional quality with the story. From the fleshed out characters, their motives, their trials and their fails, it's humane aspect was the heart of the film.
In saying that, the grappling situations they physically and internally found themselves in is only heightened by how beautifully executed each scene is. From the jungles, to the beaches, to snow capped towns, the towering cities to the open space of the ocean and the animals that inhabit it, all play a vital role in creating a visual palette.
Heart breaking, inspiring, suspenseful and hopeful. All these elements, alongside a sweeping score, a creative eye behind the lens and a captivating chain of events make this a true gem. As the camera pulls from the characters aboard their man made vessel, panning out above the clouds and beyond the stars and it focuses on the lonely blue planet we call earth, their is a moment where your heart lifts and it's a feeling few films and even experiences in life itself gives you.
