Review of Kon-Tiki (2012) by Eric I — 30 Aug 2013

I loved this movie. It had my attention from the very first scene to the last. You will not have heard of a single actor in this movie. And you probably have not heard of the movie either. But do yourself a favor and definitely rent this one. It is a widescreen beautiful shot man vs ocean story. And for added measure it happens to be true!! The effects in this movie are so good you will swear that there were no effects and that the actors in this movie really did fight sharks and whale sharks for that matter. How this movie didn't do more business I will never know. Maybe because it was up against Life of Pi another ocean story. Shot after shot this is a movie of beauty and excitement. Oddly it was nominated for the Best Foreign language category at the Academy awards last year. But it is 100% in English with the exception of a couple scenes at the beginning.

Bottom line: This is one of the hidden gems that every movie buff is always looking for. That unexpected pleasure in finding a great film.
