Review of Knuckle (2011) by Simon D — 11 Jan 2013
Incredible peek inside the Irish Traveler communities and how they arrive at short term peace accords through bare knuckle boxing. It is pretty amazing to see how much the families who are all related to each other, can hate each other so much, yet act so civil towards the person they are beating the crap out of.
The fights themselves range from brutal to incredibly sad and sloppy, (especially the two grandfathers going at it) but overall it is a fascinating look into a people who are normally very private and guarded, and getting to see them over the ten years that the film covers is really something that has never been done before.
