Review of Knowing (2009) by Alex C — 05 Jun 2012
If nothing else, you have to admit the CGI was epic. I was surprised at how much I thoroughly enjoyed a movie with Nicolas Cage in it. If you take it seriously (which admittedly is a little difficult at first), Knowing is a deep, suspenseful, and engaging disaster movie.
It stands head and shoulders above similar films like Armageddon, 2012, or The Day After Tomorrow. And unlike those other movies, it even provides some shocks and spooks in addition to scenes of people dying by the dozens.
A theme of religious faith is artfully adapted into the film as well, like in Signs (also prominently featuring an actor I don't like). Staunch atheists will probably object, but if you ask me, a stubborn atheist is just as stupid as a politically conservative Christian.
It's called being open-minded, people.
