Review of Knowing (2009) by James M — 23 Aug 2012
With the exception of the alien bit, it's as realistic a scenario that I've seen in a movie where everyone dies. Extinction level events are usually tortured in the theater as the scripts usually call for some form of saving grace in the form of humanity uniting together to save what they can and do.
This effort doesn't disappoint in that respect, with the exception of humanity failing to save itself but group of E.T's saving a very small portion. Enough to save a few and have our race among others to renew themselves on another world.
What graces this movie in the end was the actual extinction event itself which does destroy our world and everyone and everything on it, rendering it unlivable for millions of years... if ever. The totality of the movie could have been cut short and been made far more superior had the alien bit been left out.
It would have removed the creepy prediction code out too, but I opine that it would have left a much more devastating impact on the movie goers. All of that said, its still a entertaining movie.
