Review of Knowing (2009) by Melanie D — 19 Feb 2013
John Koestler (Cage): I'm not saying that 81 people are going to die tomorrow, okay? I'm just trying to understand why THIS is SAYING they will!
Phil Bergman (Mendelsohn): Okay, it's spooky, all right? I'll grant you. It's more than spooky. But just step back, all right? You have all these uncircled numbers with no sequence to them. I mean, numerology, kabbalah, pythagorean cults, there are systems that find meaning in numbers, and they are a dime a dozen. Why? Because people see what they want to see in them.
No entirely as bad as I thought it would be (because is it just me or has Nick Cage done a lot of crappy films as of lately.....anyway,), this was pretty a little cliché but still an interesting twist to the old end-of-world genre flick. The plot was simple enough to follow and once the action gets going, it can be fairly fast-paced. Granted there were some fairly convenient events but the entire film requires you to suspend disbelief, otherwise you'll never get past the first few minutes. Overall, this entertaining enough, nothing life changing but a good way to waste two-hours, if you have nothing better to do.
