Review of Knowing (2009) by Scott G — 02 Aug 2018
KNOWING (2009) 3/5 Stars.
Nicolas Cage! In a movie as ridiculous and fun (fun in a dark way, not HA-HA fun.) as his acting career has become. There is no doubt that this is sci-fi mystery nonsense. But it is the best kind of B movie nonsense- minus the camp and heart.
It is sort of relentlessly, expandingly depressing. Which I wasn't expecting and kinda felt good. Cathartic I suppose.
John Koestler, our hero, is a widower trying to keep it together with his son Caleb when a school assignment involving a time capsule churns up some very strange circumstances.
Predicting global disasters becomes a thing and you sort of figure out where it's going...but then it totally doesn't and turns into some disturbing hybrid of two totally different genres.
