Review of Knock on Any Door (1949) by Private U — 11 Dec 2007
Or "Humphrey Bogart gives the longest opening argument ever." It's obviously a showcase for John Derek, but he's not incredibly memorable--he's a little too polished to play a rough slum kid.
Bogart on the other hand is able to carry the film--his speech at the end is proof of why he's such a beloved actor. The rest is just your standard "gritty" crime drama, including a ridiculously evil District Attorney.
