Review of Knock Off (1998) by Allan C — 02 Jun 2012
The film has the same coke fueled manic energy that I'm sure was coursing through JCVD's veins at the time of filming. Actually this critically maligned film feels much more like a Hong Kong action film than a typical Hollywood action flick, which means a cagy pace, a crazy (some would say ridiculous) story and, of course, some crazy over-the-top action.
Tsui Hark brings an incredible amount of energy and directs some wildly creative action sequences, with fight choreography by the great Sammo Hung. On the downside there is some pretty awful acting by JCVD and the always annoying Rob Schneider.
Special effects are pretty bad and the story is pretty silly even by Hong Kong standards.
