Review of Knock Knock (2015) by Grzegorz K — 22 Dec 2015
This movie is awful by every measure. Character development, directing, plot and internal logic are piss poor. The film is full of plot holes, with Bel and "Genesis" (if you know a woman named Genesis, she's probably insane) being some of cinema's dumbest sadists. There are at least 20 moments where Evan (played so bad it's good by Keanu Reeves) could've beaten them with minimal effort, it's laughable. The performances are hilariously bad at times, with the two bad girls (played by Ana de Armas [Bel] and Lorenza Izzo [Genesis] doing very poorly as seductresses, but doing quite well as insane seductresses with a penchant for torment. Keanu Reeves is at his "Nick Cage" A game here; if he's not sleeping his way through a scene, he's amazingly awful.
As bad as this film is on every technical, plot, performance and emotional metric, it's just...got something. Call it heart, call it moxie, it feels self aware enough that it knows it's stupid as hell. It's a bad movie with enough camp that I enjoyed myself laughing unintentionally. And, as a concept, it's pretty good. The girls are at the very least, nice eye candy and it's twisted enough to stay memorable. So, as a guilty pleasure, I enjoyed it.
