Review of Knock Knock (2015) by Jordan A — 08 Oct 2015
Not gonna lie. I was very hyped for this film. I'm a fan of Eli Roth and his movies. This seemed like a really ridiculous one so I had to check it out! I think it's safe to say it lives up to what it promises.
The movie follows Evan, a husband and a father of two kids, whose life is pretty much perfect until one stormy night two girls knock on his door and ask for help. What comes next is one of the most awkward sequences I've seen in a movie in a long, long time! Everything from the point he opens those doors to the point where he ends up having sex with them is beyond awkward and just as much funny.
Judging by the trailer, I thought the movie was going to be a bit more serious, but I'm happy as it is. It doesn't take itself too serious and isn't afraid to push the boundaries of dark humour.
So, after Evan and the girls have sex, the next morning they start making breakfast for him, they start vandalizing his house and that sort of stuff, so he makes them leave. Once they're gone, he again thinks he's safe, but not for long.
The girls are back! And this time, they're in charge. What follows is 50 minutes of pure ridiculousness and torture. The story isn't much, but I highly enjoyed the movie itself. The acting was weird.
Keanu Reeves reminded me a lot of Nicolas Cage in this movie. He sometimes overacts, but sometimes he's just right. I loved him in this movie, nevertheless. I found myself laughing out loud at his performance sometimes.
It felt very genuine to how someone might react in a situation like that. The girls were great! They played their roles perfectly. They're both sweet and creepy at the same time. The only one that really bothered me was the guy who played Louis.
He was seriously awful. But, he's not in the movie for long, so thank God for that! The ending was freaking hysterical! I died laughing. And the fact that 'Where is my mind' is playing makes it even better (Fight Club, anyone?).
All in all, I feel strange giving this movie 4 stars, but it was just that entertaining and hilarious. Seeing how I gave movies like Jacob's Ladder the same rating will probably make you think I'm joking with this movie, but if you go in this movie expecting some thrilling and scary movie, chances are you're gonna hate it.
But, if you don't take this movie too seriously, you're gonna end up having a great, laugh-filled time!
